~ Crestone Today ~
Crestone has a dedicated and energetic group of elected Trustees.
Our many involved citizens volunteer on the Planning Commission, Volunteer
Fire Department, community charities, and other projects.
Our municipal government is revitalizing the town in this decade
to serve its growing population and commercial activity. Developments
include installing municipal water and sewer systems, remodeling the
one-room Town Hall, improving storm drainage, parks, streets, and
developing a Master Plan.
This is a wonderful time to be living in Crestone. It’s also
a great place to visit any time of the year, especially during these
exciting annual events: |
4th of July |
 |
Our celebration begins the preceding evening with a Fund-raising
Dance for the Crestone Volunteer Fire Department. The central event
on the 4th is a parade around the downtown area, including our special
“wet zone” (a block-long water fight) at the end of the
parade route with water balloons, fire truck, and lots of fun.

Crestone Alternative Energy and Sustainability
Fair |
  |
| On Labor Day Weekend sustainable energy experts, demonstrations, films,
vendors, and music fill the town park. This year the 19th annual Crestone
Energy Fair is hosted by Living Arts systems, a renewable energy project
development company. Hands on workshops on natural building, bio-fuels,
and alternative energy are given over the 3 days. The fair also includes
a very popular Sustainable Home Tour, featuring straw bale, cob, adobe,
earthship, earthbag, cordwood, papercrete, aer block, and other alternative
construction methods. |
Winterfest |
Thanksgiving
weekend, our many local artists, craftspeople, and unique importers
show and sell their creations at galleries, shops, restaurants, and
the Crestone Community Building. Large signs and maps show how to
find everything, as well as Santa Claus, music, and places for eating
and lodging.
